Union Minister for Information and Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday announced that the semiconductor fabrication plants in Assam will begin delivering semiconductor chips by next year.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 'Advantage Assam 2.0' investors summit in Guwahati, the Union Minister stated, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are making significant efforts for Assam’s development. Several connectivity projects, including railway networks, highways, airline services, and airport infrastructure, are progressing rapidly, yielding positive results."
He further added, "The most exciting news is the semiconductor plant approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Assam. Construction is progressing smoothly, and by next year, 'Made in India' chips will be a source of pride for both India and Assam."
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 'Advantage Assam 2.0', calling it a grand initiative to showcase Assam’s potential to the world. He emphasized that Assam is fast emerging as a key hub for semiconductor manufacturing.
Recently, Tata Semiconductor launched its assembly and technology facility in Jagiroad, further strengthening the semiconductor industry in the region.
This plant is expected to boost technological growth across the Northeast and enhance India’s semiconductor industry.
The event was attended by several Union ministers, business leaders, and high-level delegations from multiple countries, including Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Bhutan, and industrialists from Japan, all of whom gathered in Guwahati for the summit.
